Too many thoughts & dozing off
« on: February 13, 2012, 04:10:56 PM »
Hi there,

It's my 2nd week of listening to level one. I have to say that, unlike the others in the forum, I don't feel any different. However, during the sessions, I find myself either dozing off or  my mind straying off all over the place for 3/4 of the session and I find myself having to pull my focus back into listening. This makes me feel rather exhausted than relaxed. Any advice on what I can do? Thanks.

Shan

Good Day Shan,
I would say all is well with your BrainEv experience. The thing is, everyone is different: different brains, different 'baggage' we carry around, different space we occupy i.e. stress levels etc. So expect a very personal BrainEv experience.

Why do I think all is well with you?
Dozing off. Par for the course - it happens to almost all of us. At the beginning of each level the brain is pushed (just like a muscle), and a typical reaction of this pushing is falling asleep. You will find, as your brain acclimatises, that you will spend more time awake. Give yourself time.
Tips for staying awake: Sit up. Change the time of day when you do your session (are you tired/worn out when you do it, say after work?)
You are getting increasing amounts of low alpha, some theta and even a bit of delta..... these frequencies are very relaxing, and we use them spontaneously when we want to go to sleep. Your brain will recognise these frequencies and may tend to doze off.

Mind straying off all over the place.
Par for the course, Shan. Look through the forum, most of us experience this. Monkey mind, brain chatter, beta-buzz, beta-frazzle..... While we may aspire to having a CALM mind, total CLARITY, clear FOCUS, not many of us out there actually manage this. Currently my life has at least two challenges which are totally out of my personal control (= fertile ground for anxiety and endless streams of thought); I have a few issues (baggage) I seem wedded to despite a desire on many levels to let them go (= more fuel for the monkey mind); and I am not an experienced meditator (= so I don't have an array of steadfast techniques to quiet the mind wherever I am, whatever is happening). Again, I am not alone. If you look around the forum, you will find others who hope BrainEv will assist them in boosting their brain's potential.

I suggest you use the 30 minute of BrainEv to let go. Really relax and let go. Just let whatever happens, happen. You may need to relax a little even before starting the session, just so you start entraining as soon as you hit the start button. When you stop controlling, self-monitoring, wanting this or than, expecting a specific outcome and truly LET GO, amazing things happen.

Have a thrilling journey - but accept whatever you get! Happy BrainEv adventure, Pure Bliss

Hi Shan,
I remember when I started level 1 my thoughts bounced like a pin ball. Constant frazzle from beginning to end. I accepted that I was going to have constant thoughts, and chose not to fight them. If letting them go was easy, I would let them go, but if it proved difficult I allowed the thoughts to be there.

Not feeling any change during level 1 is not really a problem. This is just an introduction phase, and while many people feel they gain benefits during this level, many people do not feel they gain anything at this point. Just relax and let what happens, happen. Stressing out about things like doing it "right" will do more to impede your progress than help it. As Pure Bliss says, everyone is different so will react to Brain Ev, in their own unique way.

Just continue and allow things to be as they are and continue to post your progress or lack of it, and you will get a lot of support from others on the forum.
