Finished L3 Started L4
« on: January 04, 2012, 08:33:31 PM »
I'm still with the program and now a few days into L4, started on the 1st of Jan.  I start all my new levels on the first of the month and go to the end of the month, 6 days a week and one day off.

December was sort of a rough month due to a nasty cold I caught on the 7th that lasted all the way through Christmas and right up to New Years weekend. I had to cancel my trip to Arizona to spend Christmas with my family down there. So I'm over the cold and trying to get some running miles in before I head to Arizona for the Arizona marathon & 1/2 marathon on the 15th of this month. Being down with a cold put my workouts on hold so I won't be up to my normal performance for this race but I'll give it my best shot and still cross the finish line.

Okay enough of that now onto what has been going on with BtainEv. During my L3 sessions in December and continuing on into my L4 session is a lot of, shall we say negative events of the past seem to surface during the session. I really struggle with shifting focus to more positive thoughts and concentrating on the sounds in each session. I suppose this is normal at this stage so the negatives of the past are released. I should consider rereading my books on forgiveness and letting go of the past, I know that works.

My insomnia seems to be getting better, not sure if its the BrainEv doing it's magic or if it's the little changes I have made in my routine or perhaps a little of both.  I downloaded a book on sleep disorders and really absorbed the chapters on insomnia and followed some of the recommendations and it's been helping.  Some of the changes I've made is no more strenuous exercise in the evening, do that earlier in the day.  No more reading in bed before falling asleep, that was a hard habit to give up since I love to read and falling asleep with a book or my iPad/Kindle in my hand was something I got very use to. And that one glass of red wine with dinner had to go, even just one innocent glass of wine they say can affect your sleep if it's within four hours of going to bed.  And of course the caffeine, I only drink 3 cups of decaf coffee in the morning but I have my two pieces of dark chocolate 90% stuff in the evening so that got moved to earlier in the day, in fact this book recommends no caffeine after noon.

So there you have it I'm moving on and looking forward to some more pleasant changes even at the expense of going through the negative stuff to release it.

Oh and one more thing I forgot to mention, I'm still sleeping with the sleep phones and listening to my Delta sleep CD's.

Hello HOG Rider,

Sorry to hear of your illness in December. Hoping for the best for you in your upcoming marathon and 1/2 marathon.

Just trying to remember what I've read here from others, including Pure Bliss and I'm going to suggest that you do NOT strugle to shift your focus away from the negative events that come up as much as attempt to look at what is coming up without judgement. Negative things are coming up for a reason, so they can be released, which is something you bring up yourself.
Also, on the glass of wine in the evening, rather than eliminate it, can you move it forward in the evening so it is more than four hours before bed? There are as many or more positives to having a glass of wine per day as there are negatives.
Now a question about your sleep phones, does wearing those interfere with hearing your alarm in the morning?
Wishing you well on your journey.

Yeah I'm glad that's over and behind me now. The timing of this cold could not have been any better, if I had to get it anyway.  I came down with it two days after I ran the Las Vegas 1/2 marathon.  And at least it has diminished in time for my Arizona 1/2 marathon coming up next week.  The part that hurts is the four weeks of training I lost out on while I had this cold.

Good advice, thanks for the reminder, I do remember reading that in other posts here.

I can only do that three days a week (Fri-Sat-Sun), the other four when I get home from work at 4:00pm it's already within fours of my bedtime of 8:00pm.  So I skip all alcohol on those four days and have it in moderation on the three days I can consume it more than four hours before going to bed.  I realize the health benefits of a glass of red wine, but a good nights sleep is more important.  At least I get the benefits of the wine on days I don't have to work.

Actually not, the clock radio I use (Bose Wave) is pretty slick.  It has a CD player that I put my sleep CD's in to listen too and a headphone jack to plug the sleep phones into. The sleep phones I use are not the in-the-ear headphone type. It's a fleece headband with flat speakers that rest comfortably over the ears. I turn the CD player on and let it play while I sleep, the alarm function is the slick part. I set the alarm to wake to the radio, it can be selected to wake to any of three choices, radio, CD player, or iPod.  When the alarm comes on it overrides anything that might be playing at the time, in my case the CD player. The radio station and volume level I select comes on at the set alarm time and it also overrides the headphone/sleep phones that are plugged into the headphone jack and plays through the regular speaker. It's a great feature because my CD's I listen to while I sleep doesn't disturb my wife and then the alarm function kicks in at 4:00am and it's only for a few seconds until I shut it off and get out of bed.  Gotta love modern technology.  ;)
