Finished L2 and Started L3
« on: December 03, 2011, 01:05:22 AM »
Well I'm two months into BrainEv now, made it through the bells on L2. I haven't really noticed any changes yet, but I'm confident that sticking with the program and finishing all 6 levels will produce some positive results in the end.

To all that replied to my last topic when I finished L1 and started L2, thanks for the encouragement to continue on.  Sorry I haven't had time to reply, things have been really busy lately and I don't have much time for the boards.  I am following the BrainEv program as instructed, 6 days listening and 1 day off.

I'm still listening to the delta sleep BWE CD's to help me sleep at night. The insomnia issues I mentioned last month aren't getting any worse, thank God, in fact they are showing a little improvement.

Hi HogRider,
I am so glad to see you back on the forum. I missed you.... the great tips (Sleepphones and the Delta CD for us insomniacs) as well as your good humour and wit!

It is good to see you are following the program as per instructions. Just take the time to scan the forum and see how many don't...... Their loss! Like with most aspects of life, we can apply the 80/20 rule. 80% will fall by the wayside, and 20% will cross the line.

Pity you don't have time to contribute to the forum. Two downsides here. First is you risk not noticing the subtle changes

. Secondly, we all will miss out on your articulate and amusing and helpful insights.

I would like to know how the insomnia fares as you enter the higher levels. I think that the positive sleep effect I got in level 1, 2 and possibly 3, disappeared at level 5 and 6. Now I am rerunning the program, and hope level 1 will return me to sound sleep at night. Time will tell.

I wish you an amazing journey, HogRider and sleep well! Pure Bliss

Thanks for your reply Pure Bliss glad to see that you have made it through the program and, as always, I throughly enjoy reading your replies, not only to my posts but to others as well.

Part of my reason for not having much time for the boards is my workout routine, running takes up a lot of time. I train to run in 1/2 marathons, in fact the reason I'm up so late right now is I just got home from running the Las Vegas 1/2 marathon, yes they made it a night race this year and 44,000 participants ran the Las Vegas Strip under the glow of neon lights.  So needless to say I'm not ready for bed yet, not until the stiffness in my legs subside. I also planned this to be my off night from BrainEv as I knew I wouldn't be able to stay focused with my sore aching body after a 13.1 mile run. Oh and add to that the mile and a half walk from where I parked to the starting line and the same mile and a half walk back to where I parked from the finish line, capped off with a climb up four flights of stairs in the parking garage to where I parked...OUCH!!!

As for the insomnia issues, I bought a book about sleep disorders and have devoured all the information I can get out of it, especially on insomnia and sleep apnea. I was amazed how many simple little things can contribute to insomnia. So I have been making some adjustments there and it seems to be helping some as I reported in my first post. I knew about caffeine and I consume very little caffeine anyway, just 3 cups of decaf in the morning and that's it. But one of the things was mentioned was even one little glass of wine in the evening can contribute to insomnia. So I reluctantly gave up my one glass of wine with dinner for more water. And another little trick I read about was having a cup of caffeine free peppermint tea after dinner before bed, so I started doing that. These little changes have helped somewhat with my insomnia, it's not completely cured but I have noticed some improvement since making those changes.

Well my legs seem to be loosening up, at least as long as I stay in my recliner, when I get out of it to walk across the room that may be another story, LOL.  So I'm going to go slip on the sleep phones, put on a sleep CD and see how well running a 13 miler at night does for insomnia.

Hi HOG Rider,

Welcome back!!  Fantastic job on the 1/2 marathons.  Wow!  I need to learn to run properly much less that far--I have trouble putting one foot in front of the other at times--haha.  As far as noticing changes before the program's end goes, here are a couple of suggestions as well.

I echo Pure Bliss' recommendations about the daily journal (enough said).  It is critical.

Most people (including myself at times), regardless of doing BWE or traditional meditation, make the same following mistake:  they forget the gains they make during the session and FAIL to carry them forward once they sit (or get) up doing whatever it is they are doing.  As soon as they stretch, it's gone!!!!  They go back to the status quo as soon as they move: the same concerns, the same breathing, the same perspective, the same worries, the same to-do's, etc., as they had prior to doing BrainEv or meditation, that day.  It is SO IMPORTANT to carry forward your breathing, your more "enlightened" perspective, your centered calm, etc., (i.e. positive gains, no matter how trivial) whatever you received from whatever you did during your sessions as far into your daily life as you can.  The slower you move out of your BrainEv session, the more "mindful" you are about your actions, emotions, breathing, etc., the better your chances to continue the gains throughout the day, and/or the greater your chances are of seeing them in the first place.  You run--a perfect time to practice mindfulness, and a meditation in itself, while you run if you so desire.  It is really crucial to your overall success. So, please keep mindful of how you exit your BrainEv sessions and you will see changes that much sooner. I have no doubts you will see progress renewed before long.

PS--Please add your suggestions for SleepPhones and Dr. Jeffrey Thompson, at your earliest convenience, to the following link. Many of us have benefited from these ideas and I know more will too!!  :)
