Level One Great start but!
« on: November 03, 2011, 02:50:42 PM »
Hi
Listening to the first level went really well. I felt deeply relaxed and time spent listening to the soundtrack went really quickly.
One side effect is that I seem more aware of my thoughts. I caught myself the other day thinking negativley and managed to let it go.
Level 2 was going well;when I injured a muscle in my back. The pain is too distracting so I have discontinued listening to BrainEv. I should be okay in a couple of weeks. My question is will I have to go back to level 1 or will I be able to resume from where I was.

Thanks

Nick

Hi NickR,
I am so glad for you that you have got off to a great start with Brain Ev.

Perception is an interesting thing. You wrote that being more aware of your thoughts is a "side effect". In my opinion, side effects are undesirable effects of, say, taking medication. Surely being more aware of your thoughts is a BENEFIT? People meditate for years and years in order to become more aware! That is considered in many circles to be a highly desirable trait.

Regarding your neck pain. I cannot answer from personal experience, so these are mere suggestions. You have three options.
Do your Brain Ev despite the pain and observe what happens. You may find you still entrain well. Or not. Worst case is you manage to relax a bit.

Or you wait until you are better and continue where you left off. Again this is personal. It is a choice. As you have adapted so well to level 1, you may just be able to continue seamlessly.

Or you may prefer to 'regress' a little, treating the whole Brain Ev program as a mental workout. Just as with a physical injury, you would restart training a little gently and tentatively. For you this could be restarting Level 2.

When the time comes. listen into your innerself and see what prompt you get. Follow your intuition. Try that and observe. After a day or two, you can determine what is the most beneficial course of action for you.

Hope your neck feels better really soon. Happy journeying, Pure Bliss

Pure Bliss Thanks for your reply. I am thrilled with my experiences so far. I do have a background in yoga which does help with focus.
The pain I am in is too much to sit in comfort but I am improving.
I have enjoyed reading your posts and have ordered the book by Anna Wise. I'm looking forwards to quiet an adventure.
Thanks for your feedback

Hello Nick,
Interested in your reply. Involved in yoga. Can I pick your brains then? I seem to centre all my tension in my shoulders and neck. I had tendonitus in my shoulder which put that totally out of use for almost two years. Full movement back now and no pain. However my elbow joint is playing up. Not what I imagine for myself at all. I was hoping to strengthen and stretch and relax this area via yoga. What do you think? Any pointers?
Many thanks, Pure Bliss

Hi Nick,

Sorry to hear about your back.  Those kinds of injuries are the worst.  :(  Just because you stop listening doesn't mean you will lose what you have gained.  We don't really recommend people stopping and restarting for long periods in the middle of a level.  The recommendation would be to go back and begin from the start of level 2.

A great resource is the following http://www.amazon.co.uk/Yoga-Heals-Your-Back-10-minute/dp/1592330932/ref=pd_sim_b_2
Rita Trieger is well thought of,and has worked with hospitals.  This area has been a problem for me. I have found working with this book over the past ten days has really helped. Hope this helps you.
Tiffany thanks for your input. I should be ok to carry on with BrainEV next week.

Thanks

Nick

Thank you for that Nick.
Followed the link and read the reviews, wow! I have ordered it. Need to work on my core strength and fitness. Amazing as I used to be seriously fit. Time to get back into some sensible routines. I will let you know how I get on. Much appreciated,

Hello Nick,
I have been following this thread, waiting for your answer. Thank you, Tiffany, for your response.

Nick, it is good to know that you are feeling better. I, also, followed your link then looked it up again through the US link and am quite tempted to pick it up. I have frequent tightness in my neck and shoulders - work related - and pain in my lower back and hips related to a past injury. Age seems to be reminding me that I did not take very good care of my body when I was younger. Also looking forward to reading the book by Anna Wise. I'm almost wondering if there should be a link somewhere to helpful resources so people who join the forums after these threads have slowed down will have access to what has been popularly recommended.

Hi Dreamer
Good idea about a link to useful resources. I have find Anna Wise's book invaluable. It's like a roadmap. Hope the book helps with your problems. A friend has an aunty who has practised yoga for years. She looks good on it! She looks a good 20 years younger than her actual age (60).

Thanks

Nick

Hi Dreamer,

I started a post to this effect in the coffee shop for this purpose. Any and all recommendations that ANY of us users have, including Anna Wise's book (I would encourage PureBliss to add it herself here, please, as she is the source for this great book  :) ). I only recommend that any suggestions added to this thread rate at least a 7.5/10 stars to keep the list both concise and effective for most folks. It can be books, audio, video, BWE, software, strobes, eyewear, etc. The link is below for your convenience. I encourage others to add to it as it is for all of our benefit. Hope this helps. :)

Thank you Warrior. Your link helps quite a bit. Now we just need a way to keep it floating near the top of the forum without it becoming bloated. That and make sure that everyone knows where and what it is.
