Thou this post was early this week I have to say. Tom I know the feeling, falling asleep while listening, and when is the 30 min going to be done.  But I have to say I believe this progream is working. What I try to do is when I start daydreaming I just tell myself to stay focused and listen to the sounds of the water. this will take care of the boardom becouse I have to tell myself that quit offen! and before I know it the CD is over. So give it a try. the reason I say it working is becouse I have a very back case of road rage. you can ask my children or my wife. Who is the best driver in the WORLD and thay'll say. I am!    ( just becouse I think I am) But the other day I was driving and a vehicle was in the left lane and I could not pass the traffic on the right, Finally I had to move to the right lane to pass the vehicle in the left lane. If this had happend 3 days earler I would have passed and given  the driver the look from hell, But I didn't. As I passed I looked over she was on her cell phone, all I did was smile....What a great feeling! no build up tention no high blood pressure just a pleasent smile :)  I never thought about controlling my road rage with this but I really do like it! and am looking forward to more great thing happening. Stay with it Tom I really think this will work!

@July62
Way to go! Let the genius begin! Hope it turns out to be the adventure of your life! Hugs, Pure Bliss

@ Machinga
What an inspirational story! I really had to laugh with pure pleasure and delight. I have never suffered from road rage myself, but I can imagine that once the emotions start to run high, that it may be very, very difficult to climb down again. Imagine that. She had a mobile phone in her hand, and you smile pleasantly. No tension, no stress, no ugly outbreak of rage.
I am so inspired by your 100 degree turn that I am going to try the same when my mother repeats the same story again, and again, and again. You see, I too hold a belief. I believe that I am justified in being annoyed/impatient because of all the endless repetition. But there is a parallel to the mobile phone: my mother has Alzheimers, so her repetition IS justified. My irritation is what is IRRATIONAL. An irrational response to a predictable situation. This is what Sadhguru refers to as being insane. And I for one intend to stay out of Sadhguru's WWA (World Wide Asylum).
Well done and thank you so much for sharing that delicious experience - one example of how success (change) can be very, very sweet. Here is to yet more progress - who knows what your next adventure will be! Hugs to you too, Pure Bliss

Hi Everyone,

I would say that rather than get too complicated with all of the meditation concepts and psychoanalysing, keep it simple and take small steps. AZ Warrior's comment on the breathing was bang on but it didn't get the limelight it deserved.

Might I suggest a practical and more down-to-earth explanation for why you could be dozing off? It could be that your brain is not getting enough oxygen.

Meditation related activities and brain entrainment will increase circulation and brain activity - so too will the need for oxygen increase. Most people don't breathe properly even during normal day to day activities - let alone during meditation or brain entrainment.

What should you be thinking about during the sessions? Absolutely NOTHING - still the mind and focus on NOTHING but your breathing for now. Listen to your body and time yourself on the inhale and exhale and maintain the same rhythm. Breath slowly and deeply using the diaphragm and by using the same number of seconds on inhale and exhale. Eventually you will have the experience of "being breathed" rather than "breathing", which will free up your mind to master the art of silence.

In countries like Japan, martial arts students spend a lot of time and effort just learning how to master breathing before they even touch things like meditation.

I just want to support what JeDale wrote. You need to breathe properly. I read a snippet on beginning meditation that suggested inhale for a count of four, hold for two, exhale for a count of four, hold for two, repeat. I only do this with intention for the beginning few minutes of each session and generally continue to breathe deeply for the remainder while keeping my mind open to whatever happens.

Thank you dreamer for the "to do" concentration tip.I will try it on my comming session.and will let know of the outcome. One more thing,as you said let the mind be open,by this you mean, that, but what.I mean how mind open !!!!!,to me i can feel and hear the thought when it comes and so the chain reaction starts i.e. thought after thought after thought................Am I right??

How to keep one's mind open, that is a good question that most everyone has a different answer to. I go by advice I have learned from several sources.

First, allow any thoughts that come up to pass through. Take a quick mental note if it seems important, but don't become attached to the thought. Possibilities for not becoming attached to the thought include thanking it for coming up, asking it to come back when the session is over, or when a thought is stubborn, asking yourself 'who is thinking this thought?' - but do not answer that question!

Second, I have sometimes tried to visualize being somewhere where the sounds of the session would be natural. Second level I would picture myself sitting by a river I used to live near and all the distraction sounds that are part of the recording, birds, wind, bells, were familiar parts of that picture.

Finally, I don't every try to fight the thoughts that come up. If that means I lose a session to mental chatter, then that is what happens. I have occasionally found the times when thoughts overwhelmed the session, the thoughts were actually solutions to long standing problems and it was a positive thing that they occurred.

I hope this helps.
